Gavaskar said the team should not be disappointed if some grand promises made in the immediate aftermath of the win do not materialise. He reflected on his own era, recalling how after India’s 1983 men’s World Cup triumph many high-profile commitments faded away with time. “Some people get on the bandwagon when you win, but you must ask whether they actually support you or just use your success,” he said.
