Manchester, July 20, 2025: In a major setback for the Indian cricket team, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is likely to miss the fourth Test against England, starting July 23 at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old suffered a cut on his bowling hand during a net session on Thursday while attempting to stop a shot from Sai Sudharsan. The injury required stitches, ruling him out of the crucial match, with doubts lingering about his availability for the fifth Test.
Uncertainty Surrounds Akash Deep’s Fitness
Adding to India’s woes, pacer Akash Deep’s participation is also in doubt due to a groin niggle. The fast bowler, who played a key role in India’s win at Edgbaston, did not bowl in the nets before the team’s departure to Manchester. With India trailing 1-2 in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the absence of these bowlers could force the team to rely heavily on Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed the team is leaning towards playing Bumrah in this do-or-die Test.
Arshdeep’s Test Debut Delayed
Arshdeep, yet to make his Test debut, was a strong contender for a spot if the team management opted to rest a senior pacer. His injury, however, has delayed his much-anticipated debut. Known for his T20I prowess with 99 wickets in 63 matches, Arshdeep has been honing his red-ball skills, including a stint with Kent in 2023. His absence leaves India with limited options, potentially bringing Prasidh Krishna back into the fold despite his inconsistent form.

With the series on the line, India’s injury concerns couldn’t have come at a worse time. The team is also sweating over Rishabh Pant’s availability, further complicating their plans.
