Kaif’s Strong Backing for Indian Veterans
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has strongly supported Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, saying that the experienced pair still have a lot to offer in ODI cricket. He believes both players should be part of India’s plans for the 2027 World Cup. Kaif also claimed that some people are quietly waiting for the two to fail so that they can be written off.
Speaking about their current form and motivation, Kaif said, “In the back of their mind, they know people are waiting for them to fail. Look at their faces — they appeared focused but calm.” He praised the way both players performed under pressure in the recent ODI series in Australia.
Rohit and Virat Prove Their Class Again
In the second ODI against Australia, India chased down 237 with ease. Rohit Sharma led from the front with a match-winning 121 not out, while Kohli supported him with a steady 74 not out. The partnership silenced critics who questioned their form and future in the team.
Before this, both players had faced criticism — Kohli had suffered two ducks in a row, and Rohit’s earlier knock of 73 off 97 balls was seen as below par. But their strong comeback showed their experience and mental strength. According to Kaif, that’s exactly why India needs them for the 2027 World Cup, which will be played on fast, bouncy pitches where experience counts.
Experience Still Matters for Big Matches
Kaif said that players like Rohit and Kohli bring something special — big-match temperament and years of experience in handling pressure. He pointed out that age should not be the only factor in selection. “If they are performing and fit, they should play. Their presence adds balance and confidence to the team,” he added.
With many young players now part of India’s setup, Kaif feels that having these two veterans in the mix will help the team handle pressure situations better. As the 2027 World Cup approaches, selectors will have to make tough calls, but Kaif made it clear that India’s best chance of success includes both Rohit and Virat in the squad.
