Meanwhile, the five‑time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are facing their own strategic crossroads. Even though there’s speculation around Rohit Sharma’s release or trade ahead of IPL 2026, MI have publicly denied linking him with a move to Kolkata Knight Riders or elsewhere.
However, analysts suggest that while MI may say they’ll keep him, internally they are “planning for a future without Rohit”, especially as the franchise looks to inject youth and long‑term value.
