Curators at Eden Gardens revealed that the black-soil surface has very little grass, meaning reverse swing could play a major role once the ball gets older. India’s pace duo Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will lead the home attack, while Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen are set to spearhead South Africa’s pace challenge.

Interestingly, the Indian team management has confirmed they did not request a rank turner. The goal, according to curator Sujan Mukherjee, was to prepare a balanced surface offering both bounce early and turn later.
